Construction Position Agreements

Reports to: Construction Manager and Leaders
Ultimate goal:
To meet or exceed the day to day goals set out by the Construction Leaders. You assist with the installation of new landscapes or renovations of existing ones. You actively participate in team and personal development by contributing to huddles and learning Creative Roots standards. You learn to think and act like an owner by being a part of our open book management style.  

To successfully fulfill your role with CRL you’ll achieve a minimum of 80% proficiency in all the below actions.  To be evaluated in formal performance reviews.

This is what you’ll be doing
On a Daily basis:
  • Actively contribute to the daily huddles – to discuss goals for the day – priorities, roadblocks and need to knows
  • Learn and use the Creative Roots methods as instructed by knowledgeable Leaders and Managers
  • Take direction from Managers and Leaders
  • Assist Leaders to ensure all tasks are completed efficiently
  • Make recommendations to the Department Manager about upgrades and newest landscaping methods, equipment and inventory
  • Learn the safe and proper use all relevant equipment within your division
  • Help keep work vehicles and trailers stocked, organized, clean and locked at the end of each day
  • Perform all the crew skills listed in the Passport to Success at a consciously competent level, and continue to improve proficiency in the tech 1 and 2 level skills.
On a Weekly basis:
  • Actively contribute to weekly departmental and company financial huddles
  • Ensure your line items are ready and reported, with explanation if requested, at each weekly financial huddle
  • Ensure your timesheet is reviewed for each payroll
On an ongoing Basis:

This is what you can expect from Creative Roots
  • A seasonal position Monday – Friday (occasional Saturday) beginning approximately February 20th ending approximately the 9th of December, depending on weather & ground conditions and workload. If you need to start a job for the winter months a set end date can be set for you with your manager.
  • The first three (3) months of your employment is probationary, meaning that we will assess and evaluate if you are right for the team, and you can assess Creative Roots and see if we are right for you.
  • A wage of $____ per hour plus overtime compensation of $____/hour
  • A potential profit share of 15% of your gross taxable earnings

You will help organize and oversee daily tasks for the construction team, provide support and encouragement to team members, and promote team development through Creative Roots standards and systems. Learn to think and act like an owner using our unique Open Book Management style.  

To successfully fulfill your role with CRL you’ll achieve a minimum of 80% proficiency in all the below actions.  To be evaluated in formal performance reviews.

This is what you’ll be doing
On a Daily basis:
  • Actively contribute to the daily huddles – to discuss goals for the day – priorities, roadblocks and need to knows

  • Accurately complete and submit LMN time and material tracking for you, your site and team at the end of each day (if required)
  • Report equipment that is broken or working incorrectly, ensure there is a plan to get it repaired
  • Effectively coach and train team members on all departmental specific skills using Creative Roots methods
  • Perform all the crew and tech 1 skills listed in the Passport to Success at a consciously competent level, and continue to improve proficiency in the tech 2 and tech 3 level skills

If we ever need to part ways

  • If you need to leave Creative Roots, we would appreciate a 2 weeks’ courtesy notice so that we can ensure that your work can be adequately covered.  If we can cover your work, Creative Roots can choose to waive the notice period or end the notice period earlier.
  • If we need you to leave, Creative Roots will pay to you all compensation that you are entitled, up to the date of termination, which includes owed wages and salary, working notice or pay in lieu of notice, benefits, and vacation pay, as required under the Employment Standards Act of British Columbia.  However, this is provided that you were asked to leave without cause after the probationary period.  If you are terminated with just cause or let go during your probationary period, you are not entitled to any compensation.

This agreement in no way limits your involvement in Creative Roots.  We encourage an ownership mentality.  This means all employees, if capable, may take on any role necessary to accomplish our vision.

To ensure quality and timely completion of landscaping projects. Manage all aspects of a project’s progress and efficiency, oversee the training and day to day work of the team, and manage client relationships. You promote team and personal development through active participation in huddles, and demonstrate and teach the ‘Creative Roots Way’, and learn to think and act like an owner using our unique Open Book Management style.

To successfully fulfill your role with CRL you’ll achieve a minimum of 80% proficiency in all items of this position agreement
This is what you’ll be doing
On a Daily basis:
  • Hold a daily tool box meeting to review 4 o’clock at 4 (days goals, previous days success and failures, strategies moving forward, review site plans (details, sops) for days tasks.
  • Delegate daily, weekly, and project based tasks to ensure your team is efficient and projects are on track and on budget
  • Trouble-shoot and repair issues as they arise
  • Take direction from the Construction Manager
  • Manage time on site by effectively planning, prioritizing, and organizing daily tasks and appropriate skill sets to keep projects on budget.
  • Manage equipment on site – Ensure it is onsite and available when needed 
  • Ensure daily machine maintenance is completed every day
  • Manage materials on site. Ordered as proactively as required. Placed in a strategically efficient location.
  • Make recommendations to the Department Manager about upgrades and newest landscaping methods, equipment and inventory
  • Use and teach proper use of equipment and safety procedures
  • Ensure  you teams work vehicles and trailers are stocked, organized, clean and locked at the end of each day
  • Accurately complete and submit LMN time and material tracking for you, your site and team before the end of each day
  • Report equipment that is broken or working incorrectly, ensure there is a plan to get it repaired
  • Effectively coach and train team members on all departmental specific skills using Creative Roots methods
  • Ensure you have reviewed new projects site, plans, and estimate 1 week before starting a new project
  • Ensure a full site overview is done with the team when starting a new project (review plan, details, products, bottlenecks, order of execution, storage areas, key items to be maintained in current yard or removed, etc)
  • Understand how to read and interpret all details of the landscape plan and train staff on this as well as the process of implementing the details within these plans.
  • Ensure you are up to date on the progress of the project in relation to the estimate on a weekly basis and review with the team.
  • Work with the manager and team to develop strategies needed as the project moves forward.
  • Ensure product and trucking for next day is ordered by a minimum of 2pm the day before
  • Complete 4 o’clock at 4 by no later than 4pm each day
  • Complete review of divisions 4 o’clock at 4’s by 4:30 pm
  • Ensure sites are left clean, organized, and any excess garbage is taken away daily.
  • Daily morning review (in person/phone or zoom) with division manager each day to talk about daily tasks, order of execution and strategy for execution
  • Ensure you have a full understanding of crl’s installation standards for all aspects of each project and actively train team members in those standards
  • Ensure you are onsite at all times to assist in guidance of each project’s success (send others for product etc) You are expected to be the first on there, last one to leave.
  • Perform all the crew, tech 1, tech 2 and tech 3 skills listed in the Passport to Success at a consciously competent level, and continue to improve proficiency on the expert level skills and well as leadership training
On a Weekly basis:
Actively contribute to weekly departmental and company financial huddles

Maintenance Position Agreements

To work with our Maintenance Manager, assist in the administration and scheduling of duties for your Maintenance team daily and weekly. You’ll promote team and personal development through active participation in huddles, and demonstrating, teaching and improving Creative Roots standards and systems. You’ll learn to think and act like an owner using our unique Open Book Management style.
This is what you’ll be doing,
On a Daily basis:
  • Actively contribute to the daily department ops huddle – to discuss goals for the day – priorities, roadblocks and need to knows
  • Conduct a site ops huddle – to discuss what’s up and goals each site, each day
  • Delegate tasks to ensure your team is efficient in completing their daily tasks
  • Trouble-shoot and repair issues as they arise
  • Take direction from Manager
  • Manage time on site by effectively planning, prioritizing, and organizing daily tasks
  • Manage equipment on site to ensure it’s available as required & not sitting idle if needed elsewhere

Maintenance Specific Skills
Prepare and update long-term site care plans.  Review these with your manager on a bi-weekly(minimum) basis to ensure they include all the services we provide. Update clients about their properties on a bi-weekly(minimum) basis. Handle, or direct to management, client requests that require more time and thought (all extras to be approved by management AND clients before completion). Set irrigation clocks, assess and service irrigation systems.
Mow, line-trim, prune trees up to 25 feet, fertilize lawns and shrubs, ability to identify our commonly used plants, assess plant health, conduct and document IPM, fix broken irrigation, assess lighting, weed, install mulch, aerate, top-dress, trim hedges. Operate: walker-mowers & mowers, blowers, trimmers, pruners, loppers, trucks and trailers
On a Weekly basis:
  • Actively contribute to weekly departmental and all company huddles
  • Ensure your line items are ready and reported, with explanation if requested, at each weekly huddle
  • Ensure needed supplies (outside of usual supplies) are communicated and planned for with your manager

  • A seasonal position Monday – Friday (possibility of an occasional Saturday) beginning approximately February 20th 2022, ending approximately December 7th 2022, depending on weather & ground conditions and work load.  
  • The first three (3) months of your employment is probationary, meaning that we will assess and evaluate if you are right for the team, and you can assess Creative Roots and see if we are right for you.
  • A wage of $____ per hour plus overtime compensation of $____/hour
  • A potential profit share of 15% of your gross taxable earnings
  • Vacation pay of 4% of gross wages paid on each pay cheque
  • Medical Benefits – Extended Medical Benefits through RWAM Insurance. Creative Roots will pay 50% of your monthly premium (effective upon completion of 3 month probation)
