Description: The Katsura tree is a deciduous species native to Japan and China, renowned for its heart-shaped leaves that transition from reddish-purple in spring to blue-green in summer, and finally to vibrant shades of yellow, orange, and red in the fall. A unique characteristic of the Katsura tree is the sweet, candy-like fragrance emitted by its fallen leaves during autumn, reminiscent of caramel or burnt sugar.

Best Planting Spot: Plant in full sun to partial shade. It thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soils with with a pH between 5.0 and 6.5. Consistent soil moisture is crucial, especially in hot and dry conditions, as the tree is sensitive to drought. Applying a 3-inch layer of mulch helps retain soil moisture.

Mature Size: In cultivation, the Katsura tree typically reaches a height of 40 to 60 feet with a similar spread, forming a dense, rounded canopy.
